Shouts of preach, yes sir-

Passin' the basket and prayin'-

The good Reverend's voice-
Strains to be heard
As the church says amen-
To his every word
Quoting the Bible-
Both chapter and verse…
A sister with the spirit-
Is calmed by a nurse…
The choir sings and claps-
In rhythmic responses…
The congregation's alive-
Even the building bounces…
Finally, empty and quiet-
To the very last board…
